Ronald “Ron” Voorhies, 75, of Jefferson, formerly of Arlington, was born on January 31, 1949 in Alexandria, LA, to Landry Voorhies and Marilyn Tarver Voorhies . He passed away on Friday, November 8, 2024 at Magnolia Place in Jefferson, Tx. Following the unexpected passing of his beloved mother, he attended and graduated from The Masonic Home and School of Texas, located in Fort Worth. Ron joined the United States Navy, where he met Rose Zeller who was also serving while stationed in San Diego, California. Together, they had his three daughters. He was a commercial painter who did many projects in the North Texas Area. He had many passions in life. While in the Navy, he developed a love for sailing. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles with his motorcycle club. He also was very good at painting motorcycles. He took great pride in his custom paint job for his own bike. He loved building model sail ships for which he won multiple blue ribbons at the Texas State Fair. Ron was also an accomplished French Horn player and often played the bugle for friends and family. Ron loved all of his family; he is preceded in death by his parents, Landry Voorhies and Marilyn Tarver. Those left to cherish his memories are his children, Rachelle Moos and husband, Brian Childers, Rachel Longo and husband, Andy, Ronda Wilder and husband, Lennie; siblings, Carol Spanabel, Don Voorhies, Larry Voorhies, Joe Voorhies; grandchildren, Amanda, Nicole, Kristen, Cassie, Preston, Jacob, Travis; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved chihuahua, Taco. Graveside services will be held at the DFW National Cemetery on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at 1:00 PM. The cemetery has requested that everyone be in the staging lane at 12:45 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
