Doris Mae Nix Fowler

June 28, 1934 ~ June 12, 2026

Born in: Daingerfield, Texas
Resided in: Daingerfield, Texas

Doris Fowler passed away peacefully at her home in the early morning hours of June 12, 2026. She lived an amazing 91 years, after beginning life as Doris Mae Nix on June 28, 1934, at a little farmhouse outside of Daingerfield. Her proud parents were Ernest and Mary Lou Nix.

In 1953 she married B.C. Fowler and began an adventure that lasted 72 years together.

Doris attended school in Daingerfield but graduated high school from Hooks before going on to attend East Texas University in Commerce (now East Texas A&M), where she obtained a Bachelor’s degree and later a Master’s degree, and began a 35-year career as an educator, teaching music as well as elementary school before moving into administration as a Special Education Coordinator.

Her career spanned from Orange, TX, to Ennis, TX, to Hurst-Euless-Bedford School District, where she retired.

Doris attended and served faithfully at South Union Baptist Church in Jenkins, TX, after she and B.C. retired and returned to family land in Daingerfield. She loved hosting parties for her Sunday School class and Bridge Club friends. She also loved to travel.

Doris loved her family. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Benson and Cindy Fowler of Daingerfield; her grandchildren, Bethany and Jared Murdock of Pittsburg, Katelyn and Dustin Condit of Colorado, and Burton and Cathryn Fowler of San Antonio. She was also ā€œMamawā€ to five perfectly wonderful great-grandchildren: Jace and Jackson Murdock, Bradford and Briar Fowler, and Benjamin Condit.

Doris was reunited in death with her husband, B.C., who passed away in September 2025.

She was loved, and she loved well. Though she will be deeply missed, her family takes comfort knowing Mamaw and Papaw are together again and that the love they built over 72 years lives on in everyone she touched.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 15, 2026, at South Union Missionary Baptist Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place at Clark Cemetery under the direction of Horn Family Funeral Home of Daingerfield.
