Betty Grainger
Betty Grainger, 92, of Daingerfield was the sweetest, kindest person many of us had the fortune to know. Betty was born on December 21, 1933, in San Antonio, Texas, to Oliver and Lillian Thompson and resided most of her life in Daingerfield. She went to be with her savior early Monday morning, July 13, 2026 while in Longview. Her early life was marked by frequent moves, influenced by her father’s role as a County Agricultural Agent.
Betty married Jerry Grainger on April 28th, 1951, and together they embarked on a life filled with love and adventure. Betty’s passion for the outdoors was evident as she and Jerry took their children tent camping across Texas during their child-rearing years. A lover of nature, Betty also devoted herself to yard work, gardening, and flowers, bringing beauty to her surroundings.
Professionally, Betty worked diligently as a secretary for a County Agent for 7 years, spent 8 years at the County Clerk’s office, and dedicated 3 years to a company that made ammunition during wartime. She concluded her career after 13 loyal years in the Personnel Department at Lone Star Steel.
Besides being recognized for her culinary skills as a wonderful cook, Betty’s legacy continues through her family. She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Cox and her husband Mitch of Longview; son, David Grainger of Pittsburg; grandkids, Jason Cox and his wife, Chelsea, Whitney Cox, and Jennifer York and her husband Nick, along with Logan Cox, Sydney Cox, Colbie Cox, Olivia Cox, Grainger York, and Georgia York. Betty was a sister to Barbara Tompkins and her husband Tommy of Georgetown, and sister-in-law to Becky Thompson of Lakeway.
Betty was predeceased by her loving husband, Jerry Grainger, Sr., after 52 wonderful years together. She was also preceded in death by their two sons, Michael and Danny Grainger, her sisters, Arrie Thompson, Alison Thompson, and Sandra Nett, and her brother, James Thompson.
A funeral service will be held at 10 AM Thursday, July 16, 2026 at the Daingerfield Church of Christ with Tim Gibbs officiating. Burial will follow in Daingerfield Cemetery under the direction of Horn Family Funeral Home of Daingerfield. The family will receive friends beginning at 9 am prior to the service at the church.
Betty Grainger’s life was a testament to kindness, love, and dedication, qualities that will be cherished and remembered by all who knew her. Her light and love survive in the hearts of her family and friends, whose lives she touched so deeply.

My sweet friend who shared many recipes with me when I was younger. My prayers are with you at this time
Mrs. Grainger was a wonderful person, with a beautiful soul. Praying for her family and loved ones.
One of the sweetest ladies in Daingerfield. I got to know Betty through our visits when she came in the flower shop. I had no idea until she shared with me that she had actually babysat my brother and me when our parents first moved to Daingerfield some 69 years ago. Betty was a dear sweet soul and I am thankful our paths crossed . Prayers for peace and comfort as she is laid to rest after a life well lived.
Prayers for this sweet family. May God hold you in His arms and know that she is with God and Jerry and sons.
David and Kathy I’m praying for peace and comfort for you both and your families.🙏🏾❤️
