Vonita Kay Bowers was born on February 25, 1954 to Gordon and Mary Cooper Tipping. She passed away on November 23, 2024, at the age of 70. Vonita had a deep passion for horseback riding and was a dedicated equestrian. With 9,960 competition miles, she competed across North America as an Endurance rider for almost 40 years. Vonita is preceded in death by her parents, Gordon and Mary Lois Tipping; loving husband, Dr. Michael L. Bowers; sisters, Geneva Murl Tipping, Janice Tipping Griffith; brothers, Jack Tipping, Donald Tipping; friend and companion, Joe Herron. Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Aaron Bowers and wife, Britney, Matthew Bowers and wife, Amanda; grandchildren, Haley Bowers, Piper Bowers, Lailah Bowers, Abigail Bowers, Michael R. Bowers; beloved nephew, Bill Bowers and wife, Stephanie; brother, Anthony Tipping; numerous nieces and nephews, friends, and extended family; as well as friend and companion, Russell Broussard. The family would like to thank Chambers Hospice for their dedication and support during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Prevent Cancer Foundation. https://preventcancer.org/donate/ A visitation will be held on Monday, November 25, 2024, from 5-7 PM in the chapel of Horn-Nail-Haggard Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at 10 AM in the chapel of Horn-Nail-Haggard Funeral Home. Interment will take place in Hughes Springs Cemetery.

    Vinita was a fine lady, great friend and client, who kick started my career as a endurance veterinarian and my daughter,s passion of endurance riding. She has fought a tuff battle with health with out giving up her love of horses, RIP dear you will be ever remembered!

  10. I remember Vinita thru years of endurance riding. She was a great ambassador for endurance. My sympathy to her family and many friends.

  11. I’m so saddened to hear of the passing of this grand lady who I loved and enjoyed throughout our growing up years at the Methodist Church and in school. Whatever Vonita did, she did extremely well. And she amazed me by how far she could run on the roads near her house–even after she became very ill. And what a supporter of her loving family! Condolences to Aaron and Matt and Anthony and all those grandchildren I’ve heard her speak of so fondly. With love

  12. I am sad to hear this, she was in the CAT group and taught me a lot about endurance. Her Foxfire rides were fun.
