Steven Dwayne Nix

On June 03, 2023, Steve Dwayne Nix, 68, of Daingerfield, TX, passed away peacefully at home with his beloved wife Becky at his side. Steve and Becky wed in 2000 and were happily married for 23 years Steve, the second of four children, was born on October 2, 1954, to EJ and Helen Louise Nix of Wagner, Texas. In 1973, he graduated from Bland High School and went on to pursue a career as an electrician. Early in his career he spent time at Lone Star Steel and eventually rose to the position of Outage Coordinator at Southwestern Electric Power Company, retiring in 2021. Steve also spent several years as Fire Chief of Rocky Branch volunteer fire department. Steve enjoyed many passions. He was an avid outdoorsman and spent much of his time hunting and fishing. He was also an accomplished golfer and craftsman. If he wasn’t in the deer stand or golf course he could be found in his shop and was more than happy to assist his family and friends in repairing any number of broken appliances, golf carts, ATVs and vehicles. Steve was always happy to explain, in detail, his methods and methodologies, even when his audience had long lost interest. His yard was filled with flowers, vegetables, trees and poultry, all of which he cultivated with care. Steve was preceded in death by his father EJ and mother Helen Louise Nix, as well as his son Kyle Nix. He is survived by wife Becky Nix, daughter Kelly Nix and her son Peyton Rhyne, as well as his grandchildren Kolby and Kennedy Nix, children of Kyle and Kaycee Nix. In many ways, Steve was a second father to his step children, grandchildren and their spouses, Andy, Catie and Easton Thomas, Tyson Daigle, as well as Cass, Katy and Kai Shaddix, all residing in Hughes Springs, Texas. As mentioned, Steve was the second of four children. He leaves all three siblings and their husbands behind. They include his sister Deborah and Bruce Shimpock, Karen and David Thomas, and Brenda and Roddy Jackson. His canine companions were dear to him. Lucy, Sadie, Buddy and Sybie have stayed behind with Becky, but Figgy is on a long walk with him now. He will be greatly missed. His absence will leave an irreparable hole in the lives of his family, friends and neighbors. The love, compassion and guidance he offered bettered all those around him. Steve was more than a husband, father, friend and neighbor. His selflessness and willingness to work set an example for us all, we can only hope he knew how much he mattered in our lives. We love you, Steve. Thanks for all you did, you made a difference and will continue to influence all of us, we just wish we had more time with you. A celebration of Steve's life will be held at 11 AM Thursday, June 8, 2023 at South Union Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Clark Cemetery. Services have been entrusted to the Horn family at Horn-Nail-Haggard Funeral Home of Daingerfield. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Wednesday evening, June 7, 2023 at the funeral home.
