In Loving Memory of Ruben Vasquez Sr. December 28, 1948 – December 7, 2024 Born in San Marcos, Texas, Ruben Vasquez Sr., 75, of Daingerfield, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones. He is preceded in death by his father, Eusebio Vasquez; mother, Eugena Vasquez; son, Ruben Vasquez Jr.; and daughter, Veronica Vasquez-Folmar. Ruben is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Maria Vasquez; his daughter, Imelda Davidson, and son-in-law, Shaun Davidson; son-in-law, Jason Folmar, and granddaughter, Isabel Folmar; granddaughter, Ashley Sumners, and her husband, James Murphy; granddaughter, Haley Davidson-Hutchins, and her husband, Jacob Hutchins; grandson, Denton Sumners. Ruben also leaves behind three cherished great-grandchildren: River Hutchins, Maverick Murphy, and Madden Murphy. Ruben was born in San Marcos, Texas, and carried a deep love for his South Texas roots. Over the years, he and Maria made frequent trips to San Antonio, treasuring the culture and memories. As a child, Ruben moved north with his family and settled in Fort Collins, Colorado. In service to his country, Ruben fought in the Vietnam War, where he was wounded in action and awarded the Purple Heart for his bravery. However, Ruben’s resilience extended far beyond the battlefield. He was not just a soldier in war, but a soldier in life, triumphing over cancer and enduring many other health battles with unwavering strength and determination. Ruben met the love of his life, Maria—whom he affectionately called Mary—in 1973 in Fort Collins, Colorado. The two were married the same year and raised three beautiful children together: Ruben Jr., Imelda, and Veronica. Later, Ruben and his family returned to East Texas, where he worked and retired from Texas Tubular. In his retirement, Ruben found joy spending time with his family, welcoming great-grandchildren, and cherishing the love and laughter of his final years. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and proud veteran, Ruben Vasquez Sr. will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His legacy of love, resilience, and dedication will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM Thursday, December 12, 2024 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Daingerfield. Burial will follow in Our Lady of the Pines Cemetery under the direction of Horn-Nail-Haggard Funeral Home of Daingerfield. A rosary will be recited at 10:30 AM prior to the service at the church. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday evening, December 11, 2024 at the funeral home Those serving as pallbearers include: Shaun Davidson, Jason Folmar, Jacob Hutchins, James Murphy, Denton Sumners, Jeff Stirl and Abraham Reyes.
