October 7, 1958 ~ July 27, 2021

Roger Lynn Nielsen, age 62, passed from this life to his eternal home with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 in his home in Rose Hill, Kansas. He was born to Rev. E. G. and Ruby Nielsen in Texarkana, Texas on October 7, 1958. After graduation from Daingerfield High School, Daingerfield Texas, he married the love of his life, Janice Kay Sloan, on June 17, 1978. Devoted to each other for 42 years, they were blessed with two children, Caleb Lynn Nielsen and Laken Nicole Nielsen, and two granddaughters Rhiannon Lilly Sears and Brooklyn Leiann Abel.Roger was a vibrant person. You knew when he was in the room because he was joking, telling tall tales and laughing with friends, neighbors, coworkers or family. He loved to a fault. Roger was always willing to help people or allow them to work with him in order to help themselves. He didn't mind correcting them and, to the outsider it may have sounded a little rough. But he had confidence and high expectations in his ability and knowledge. He enjoyed teaching to reveal one's untapped skills. In his career, this unusual gift provided him opportunity to train and supervise hundreds of laborers in the plastics manufacturing industry. He is preceded in death by his wife Janice Kay Nielsen; mother and father, E.G. and Ruby Nielsen; father in law, Waylon Sloan; brothers in law, Steven Hargrove and Andy Sloan. He is survived by son Caleb Lynn Nielsen; daughter Laken Nicole Nielsen; son in law Dylan Cole Abel, all of Rose Hill, Kansas; brother Wayne Douglas Nielsen and wife Debbie of Benton, Arkansas; sister Sheila Nielsen Hicks and husband Kenneth of Jacksonville, Texas; mother in law, Glenda Martin and husband Tommie of McAlister, Oklahoma; as well as his granddaughters and several nieces and nephews.A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 21, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at South Union Baptist Church Family Life Center in Daingerfield, Texas, followed by visiting and reminiscing with Roger's family and reuniting with his friends until we are all asked to leave. That's how most of his gatherings ended. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Roger's name be made to the Ruby Nielsen Scholarship Fund at Texas Baptist Institute and Seminary. Donations can be made at the memorial service or mailed to East Side Baptist Church, 1100 East Loop 456, Jacksonville, Tx. 75766.
