Daingerfield-Milford Jay Shumate, 73, of Pittsburg, was born on May 5, 1942 in Rains county, Texas to Mary Jewell and Marvin Troy Shumate. He died on Saturday, September 12, 2015 in Pittsburg. Services will be held at Oak Grove Baptist Church with Bro. Curtis Epnett and Bro. John Williams officiating, on Tuesday, September 15, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be held prior to the services from 9:30 until 11:00 a.m., at the church. Jay is preceded in death by his father, Marvin Troy Shumate, and sister, Myra Kay Shumate. He is survived by his mother, Mary Jewell Shumate and his wife of 51 years, Frankie Ann Shumate, two children, son and daughter-in-law, Julius Dan and Kathy Shumate, daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and John Johnson, grandchildren, Dakota McCoy and Joe Johnson, brother Milton Ray Shumate and wife Elizabeth Ann, two nieces, Debbie Shumate Spencer and husband Chris and Darla Shumate, with numerous nieces and nephews. Jay was a loving husband and father. He put his God, then family first in his life. He loved helping others, tinkering in his machine shop and working with his hands. He loved putting in a garden every year. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church for 11 years and worked there diligently during that time as a Sunday School teacher, bringing devotionals, and also did the maintenance work around the church. He received a Certificate in 'Master Printers of America" on January 24, 1970, for outstanding abilities and performances. He received a Certificate of Completion as an "Apprenticeship Machinist" in the trade of machine work by the United Stated Department of Labor on February 16, 1979.
