February 27, 1951 ~ May 14, 2025

Marvin “Mike” Carter, age 74, of Daingerfield, Texas, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Born on February 27, 1951, in Atlanta, Texas, Mike lived a life rooted in hard work, deep loyalty, and community pride. Mike was a proud graduate of Linden-Kildare High School and went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army. After his military service, he spent much of his career at AEP/SWEPCO and later ran his own business, Carter Plumbing, holding a Master Plumber's license- an achievement that reflected his work ethic and skill. Mike was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Daingerfield, where his faith anchored his life and values. He served his community as a dedicated member of the Daingerfield City Council, always working to make decisions that reflected the best interests of its citizens. He was a steady supporter of both the local fire and police departments and believed deeply in doing his part to strengthen the place he called home. Mike had a deep love for Daingerfield, the community he proudly called home- especially when it came to Tiger football. He could often be found enjoying a cup of coffee at Hawkins, swapping stories, laughter, and the kind of wit and sarcasm only someone like Mike could offer. He had a special joy for watching his grandkids play sports, and some of their best memories are of time spent with him on his barge at the lake. Known for being quick-witted, dependable, and as generous as they come, Mike never left you guessing where you stood with him. He was selfless, the kind of man who showed up when it mattered, and valued an honest day’s work above all else. He is survived by his children, Lacey Carter, Paul Carter, and Brittney Haley; his beloved grandchildren, Kamdyn, Keaton, Kohen, Laila, and Annabel; and his sister, Martha Clifton. He also leaves behind many cherished nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Eric Haley; his parents, William Bryce and Treby Lee Carter; and his siblings Bryce Elvin Carter, Clarice Moody, Kathryn Paddy, Patrick Wayne Carter, Billie Jean Morgan, Clyde Buford Bolding, and Barbara Sue Carter. A visitation will be held at Horn-Nail-Haggard Funeral Home on Saturday, May 17, from 4:00–6:00 p.m. Funeral services will take place Sunday, May 18, at 2:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Daingerfield, with burial to follow at Clark Cemetery in Jenkins, Texas where he will receive full military honors. Mike Carter’s legacy of loyalty, grit, and kindness will live on in his family, his friends, and the town of Daingerfield—a place he proudly called home. “Well done, good and faithful servant.” – Matthew 25:23
