Resided in:
Daingerfield, Texas
Larry Joe Forrest, 78, of Daingerfield, shared his last cup of coffee with friends on November 14, 2025. He was born on August 17, 1947, in Sulphur Springs, Texas, to Charles “Charlie” Forrest and Lucretia “Crickett” Wright Forrest.
Joe spent his early years on Highland Drive, adventuring with friends, neighbors, and especially his cousin Tom. After achieving Eagle Scout rank and graduating from Daingerfield High School, Joe journeyed to college in Denton with a cadre of lifelong friends. He rambled far and wide, seeking knowledge and experiences until finally making a home in a sleepy mining town in Colorado for many years. Joe later returned to Daingerfield, where he settled down with Diane and embraced the role of caregiver for multiple family members with patience and a sly sense of humor.
Joe’s unending quest for knowledge inspired those around him to think differently and appreciate the minutia of the natural world. He sought to understand the weird, the unexplainable, and the greater Universe. Sometimes chasing ideas right down the rabbit hole, he enthusiastically shared his perceptions and ideas with others. He enjoyed birdwatching, playing domino and card games with family, and listening to music–especially the blues.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Diane Simpson; parents, Charlie and Crickett Forrest; and brother-in-law, George Spann. Joe is survived by his son, Yancy Forrest; sister, Pamela Spann of Daingerfield; nieces, Jennifer Parks of Austin, Karen Ostergaard of Asheville, NC, and Sydney Spann of Austin; nephew, Henry Harris of Burlington, VT; great nieces, Greta Ostergaard and Charlie Parks; and innumerable cousins, chosen family, and fellow mischief-makers.
In lieu of funeral services, honor Joe the way he lived: plant something that grows, expand your mind, watch the birds, spin a yarn, tell lies around a campfire, and help your neighbor. Donations to https://www.easttexasfoodbank.org/ are also welcome.

Remembering Joe and extended family today. Cleaned out my birdbath and put fresh feed in the birdfeeders so we will have entertainment when the weather gets a little cooler. Checked on our little patch of asparagus, saved some seed from my hyacinth vine and nodded at the pansies that all had happy little faces. Joe was a smart and interesting guy. We will miss him at our yoga gatherings. Maybe we can drum in remembrance of Joe when we have another drum circle. The best way to keep Joe’s memory alive is to live it in the ways suggested. Plant something, expand your mind, feed the birds, help your neighbor….and make a better world in the process.
