Jerry Walker
October 26, 1935 ~ December 4, 2024
Jerry Arnold Walker, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away on December 4, 2024, at the age of 89. Born on October 26, 1935, in Dallas, Texas, Jerry lived a life marked by dedication, kindness, and resilience.
In 1941, Jerry moved with his family to Daingerfield, Texas, where he planted deep roots in the community he loved. A proud graduate of Daingerfield High School, Jerry played football for the Daingerfield Tigers, a passion that stayed with him throughout his life. He carried on his love of the Tigers and sports by heading the Daingerfield Booster Club and refereeing football games across Northeast Texas. Alongside his professional achievements, Jerry pursued higher education, earning his associate degree from Kilgore College.
On October 1, 1955, he married the love of his life, Waldine Harris Walker, and together they built a life filled with love and shared memories. Their marriage, spanning nearly seven decades, was a testament to their unwavering commitment to one another.
A man of faith, Jerry was a devoted member of the Church of Christ in Daingerfield. His strong moral compass and steadfast belief in perseverance were encapsulated in his life motto: "Keep on keeping on."
Jerry’s contributions to his community extended far beyond his career. He was a proud volunteer firefighter, always ready to serve and protect his neighbors. Many will remember him as a beloved substitute teacher at Daingerfield High School, where he shared his wisdom and humor with younger generations. An avid outdoorsman, Jerry found joy in fishing, camping, hunting, and tending to his garden. His love for the land and the simple pleasures of life were evident in everything he did.
Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Waldine Harris Walker; his son, Kerry Walker; his parents, Lester and Minnie Walker; and his brothers, Larry and Jimmy Walker. He leaves behind a legacy of love and perseverance, cherished by those who survive him: his grandson and wife, Kip and Samantha Walker, and their daughter, Andy Walker, of Spicewood, Texas; his daughter-in-law, Ruthanne Walker, of Mount Pleasant, Texas; and numerous friends and community members whose lives he touched.
Services to honor Jerry’s life will be held on Monday, December 9, 2024, at 3:00 PM at Clark Cemetery. Friends and family are welcome to pay their respects during visitation hours at Horn-Nail-Haggard Funeral Home on Monday.
Jerry Arnold Walker lived a life of service, love, and unyielding optimism. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to all.
A special thank you to his caregivers at Southern Winds Manor, Heart to Heart Hospice, and his dear friends Grace, Betty, and Stephen for their unwavering support and love.
