James Ray Carter Jr.

James Ray (Pappy) Carter Jr., son of James Ray Carter Sr. & Mary Willard, ended his lengthy and courageous battle with cancer on December 7, 2025 at his home in Pittsburg, Texas with his loving wife of 20 years, Karmin Renea McNeil, by his side. James was born on February 22, 1972 in Vicksburg, Mississippi. James leaves behind two children, Christopher James Carter and Kimberlee Renea Carter. He is also survived by his brother, William Lee Carter along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. James is preceded in death by his parents, sister (Tammy Lynn Carter), and daughter (Kendall Vernice Carter).

James loved his family with his whole heart. He provided for them with an owned and operated plumbing business. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, employees, and the community he served. James worked hard until the very end.

A funeral service for James will be held at Horn Funeral Home in Daingerfield, Texas on December 11, 2025 at 2:00pm, with family receiving visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial service will follow at The McNeil Family Cemetery (Spring Hill Cemetery). Pallbearers are Gene McNeil, Jerry McNeil, Jeff Krogman, Dawson Crumpton, Rachel Renfroe, and Gavin Swafford. Honorary pallbearers are Freddie McNeil, Ira Tossey, Zachary Carter, and Tyler Bruce.
