James Edward "Jim" GarnerDaingerfield-Services for James Edward "Jim" Garner, 83 of Daingerfield will be held at 10 A.M. Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at First Baptist Church in Daingerfield with Bro. Norman Crisp and Bro. Ray Cuellar officiating. Burial will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at Red Bayou Cemetery in New Boston. Arrangements are under the direction of Nail-Haggard Funeral Home.Jim was born on April 17, 1934 in Texarkana, Arkansas to F. J. and Gordie Opal Garner. He passed from this life on May 27, 2017 in Mt. Pleasant.He graduated from Arkansas High and worked his way thru North Texas University as a fireman. Jim served his country as a Captain in the Air Force, returned to work at Lone Star Steel and T&N Railroad as a personnel director and human resources for 38 years. He was a member of the Honor Guard Post # 351 in Hughes Springs.The last 9 years he served as the Veteran's Service Officer for Morris County.Jim was a member of First Baptist Church Daingerfield and was a deacon for over 50 years. He was also a member of the Tiger Booster Club since 1961. Jim loved to hunt and fish with his buddies.He was preceded in death by his parents and sister.Survived by his wife of 60 years Jean Daniel Garner of Daingerfield; daughter and son-in-law Suzanne and Dane Carpenter of Longview; son and daughter-in-law Lee Austin and Marion Garner of Boise, Idaho; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Ken and Betty Kennedy of Daingerfield; grandchildren Cody Carpenter and wife Megan of San Antonio, Nikki Carpenter of Longview, Christina and Kimberly Garner of Boise, Idaho; great granddaughter Sadie Lynn Carpenter of San Antonio; Numerous relatives and special friends.Memorial may be made to First Baptist Church or your favorite charity."Absent from the body is present with the Lord"Family will receive friends from 6 till 8 P.M Tuesday at the funeral home.Online condolences may be made at Nail-HaggardFH.com

  4. Oh my I am so sorry to hear of Jim’s passing. He and Jean were our neighbors for several years and I learned to love them. I have obligations for the funeral date, but know I will have Jean and family in my prayers. God bless you all.

  9. Such a wonderful soul. Jim will be missed by so many. He was like my second dad growing up, I stayed with them on the weekends. Was truly a great man.
