Graveside services for Gwen Wommack Knieff, 87, of Daingerfield will be held at 4 PM Thursday, October 13, 2022 at Hughes Springs Cemetery with Mark White officiating. Mrs. Knieff was born on August 11, 1935. She along with her husband Pat owned and operated several businesses including Knieffs Clothing Store in Daingerfield and Mt. Pleasant and the Movie Theatre in Mt. Pleasant. She was a member of the Daingerfield Church of Christ.
Gwen passed away peacefully surrounded by her children, and loving family, on Saturday, October 8, 2022. She was preceded in death by her husband, Pat L. Knieff, and was married for 64 years.
As a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, she loved watching generation after generation of children grow and learn as she taught life lessons. Gwen was an extremely talented artist, working with stained glass, porcelain, paints, charcoals and pretty much anything else that caught her interest. Her philosophy was mind over matter, and if someone else can do it so can you.
Affectionately known as Nanny, she touched the lives of everyone who had the privilege of calling her friend or family.
She is survived by her 3 children: Michael D. Knieff, Tonya L. Knieff, and Darryl W. Knieff and spouse, as well as 10 grandchildren and spouses, with 15 great-grandchildren.

I remember clearly the day I came home sad and sulky because another girl in my class was wearing a bra to school for the first time (and bragging about it), and I didn’t have one. Truth is, she needed one, I didn’t. But when my dad got wind of why I was sulky, he personally took me to Knieff’s for me to get one of my own. This was at the newer store. I remember Mrs. Knieff personally took me back and helped me find a starter bra that would fit and I left there wearing it proudly. I remember how comfortable she made me in trying them on and didn’t make me feel as awkward as it could have been having one’s dad be the one to take her to buy her first bra. I also remember Mrs. Knieff from church. She would always greet me by name when she saw me. She even used the correct pronunciation whenever she did. Not everyone understood my name has three syllables, but she did. That made me feel important to her. She was one of a kind.
Gwen as well as Pat were very influential in my life. Undoubtably changed my life forever. I loved working at Kneiff’s Family Fashion store on the menswear side. And I spent a lot of time at their home. Gwen and I would have long conversations where we shared so much from the heart. She had a deep Christian faith, loved to travel, cook and think “outside the box”. I feel sad for her loss, but my mind is flooded with happy memories. I am so glad I had a chance to see Pat and Gwen a few years ago. I thank God for the life and legacy of Gwen Kneiff.
Gwen was such a sweet lady. She was always so well dressed and that tiny waist was amazing!!
Prayers and condolences for Mike, Tonya and Darryl.
