Frances Marie Hanshaw

Visitation for Frances Hanshaw, age 92, will be held at Sawyer-George Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2025. Graveside services will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Odem, Texas on Friday, May 9, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. Frances was born on April 9, 1933 and passed away on May 2, 2025. The full obituary and online condolences may be found at hornnailhaggardfh.com. Frances Marie Hanshaw was born April 9, 1933 to A.C. and Minnie Rothlisberger of Taft, Texas. As the daughter of a farm family, Frances grew up helping in the fields and around the house. Frances attended schools in Driscoll, Robstown, and graduated from Sinton High School. While attending high school, she worked for her aunt and uncle at Eddie’s Cafe in Sinton. It was there she met Edward Hanshaw, whom she married in June of 1950. Frances and Edward welcomed three children. The family made their home in Corpus Christi where Frances lead an active life as a mother, bookkeeper for Presscon and The Coastal Bend Council of Governments, a member of Eastern Star Chapter 354 where she served as Worthy Matron, and a member of the Daughters of the Nile Elidad Temple #134 where she served as Queen. Frances loved dancing and gardening. She and Edward belonged to a dance club and could be found on the dance floor at many club events and at Al Amin Shrine Temple. Her talent for gardening was incomparable; her back yard was an oasis of color in which she lovingly worked daily. Frances also gave generously of her time as a volunteer at Shrine events like the Shrine Circus. Her style and grace as well as her ever-present smile always lit up any room she entered. Frances was preceded in death by her parents, A.C. and Minnie Rothlisberger; her husband, Edward; Son-in-Law, Jim Moore; and Son-in-Law, Sam Johnston. Left to cherish her memory are daughter, Diana Johnston; son, James Hanshaw (Emilee); daughter, Brenda Moore; grandchildren, Angie Hendricks (Jeffery); Terrell Johnston (Amber); Jessica Hatt (Eddie); Erin Still; Tarin Pryer (Mark); Jennifer Ramirez (Daniel); nine great-grandchildren; sister, Delores McEntire; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
