July 18, 1949 ~ January 9, 2024

Dale Batts was born in Houston, Texas on July 18,1949. He was the son of Steve Louis Sr. and Vera Faye Sager Batts. He married Shelah Sanford Batts and had two children, Tamara and Troy Batts. Dale loved his family and was known as “Pawpaw'' to his 7 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dale treasured his relationship with his grandchildren and sometimes called daily to check-in with them. Anyone who ever met Dale knew he liked to work. He was a talented plasterer and started working for a plastering company as a teenager. Dale could build and do anything with his hands and eventually owned his own construction company with his friend and business partner, Harvey Hand. Maintaining relationships with family and friends was a priority for Dale. As a child, Dale developed a lifelong friend, George Seaback and kept in touch with him for more than 60 years. Later he met Rodge and Linda Dunlap and cherished their friendship too. Recently, he rekindled his friendship with David and Mike Bickerdike who worked construction with him many years ago. Dale was an outdoorsman and loved fishing. He viewed fishing like he did his work and could fish all day and night. Most importantly, Dale was a Christian. He trusted Jesus as his Lord and Savior which brought him much comfort and hope in his final days. The last few years of Dale’s life he battled cancer and left his earthly home in the presence of his Hospice nurse, Dana, his son Troy, and daughter-in-law Sara Beth. His survivors include his brother Steve Batts, sister Edna Rodriguez, daughter Tamara, son Troy, son-in-law Roger, daughter-in-law, Sara Beth, grandchildren Jayson, Amanda, Brittany, Josh, Noah, Luke, Maely and great grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 PM Saturday, January 13, 2023 at the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 4700 Victory Drive, Marshall, TX 75672. Honoring his requests, cremation arrangements have been entrusted to the Horn family at Horn-Nail-Haggard Funeral Home of Daingerfield.
