Don Louis Smith

Graveside services for Don Louis Smith, 92 of Hughes Springs will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, January 30, 2023 at Bradfield Chapel Cemetery in Hughes Springs with Bro. Chad Thompson of South Union Missionary Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Horn-Nail-Haggard Funeral Home of Daingerfield. Mr. Smith was born on October 17, 1930 in Bradfield Chapel to John Walker and Winnie Smith. He passed away Friday morning, January 27, 2023 in a Pittsburg hospital. Don Louis was a 1948 graduate of Daingerfield High School and worked as a pipe inspector for Lone Star Steel before retiring. He was a lifelong cattle rancher and after retirement was a chicken farmer for Pilgrim's. He loved his garden and his favorite things to do were hunt, fish and work outdoors with his family and best friend, Alfred H. Fowler. He was member of Bradfield Chapel United Methodist Church. He married the love of his life at the age of 19 and worked his entire life to make sure his family's every need was taken care of. A loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Don Louis was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Warner Smith, Lonnie Smith, Mack Smith and sister, Elma Wallace. He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Betty Bell Smith of Hughes Springs; daughters and sons-in-law, Kim Fowler and Buddy of Daingerfield, Paula Nix and Dennis of Lone Star; son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Treva Smith of Pine Bluff, AR; grandchildren, Ty Nix, Colby Nix, Billy Don Nix, Haley Nix, Chance Smith, Morgan Smith, Walker Smith, Casey Tucker, Tyler Roden, Sarah Dean, Sam Fowler; numerous great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Honoring his requests, the family is asking that memorial contributions be made in honor of Don Louis to: Cypress Basin Hospice, 207 Morgan St., Mount Pleasant, Texas 75455.
