Catherine Denice O'Dell

Catherine Denice O'Dell of Hughes Springs was born to Newton Hobbs and Wanda Massey on August 25, 1953. She passed away on November 23, 2024, at the age of 71. Denice had many passions in life which included her family and serving the Lord. Her home church since 1971 was Veal Switch Missionary Baptist Church where she served in the children’s ministry and dedicated her life to it. She was also close-knit with the Ladies Missionary Auxiliary. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority. She was also a member of the Modern Study Club. In 1971, she married John O’Dell. They went on to have three children. Throughout her life, she worked at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Daingerfield State Park, Hughes Springs Elementary, and as a dental assistant for Dr. Baucum & Dr. Dolive in Longview. She is preceded in death by her father, Newton Hobbs; mother, Wanda Massey Pettigrew and her husband, Gene; grandson, Liam O’Dell; son in law, Kyle Brown; Sisters, Turquince Hobbs and Renee Hobbs; father and mother in law, Frank and Maurine O’Dell. Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, John O’Dell; children, David O’Dell and wife, Lisa, Denny O’Dell and wife, Chandra, Rebecca Brown; grandchildren, Taylor Evans and husband, Mike, Macy O’Dell, Celeste Hollingsworth and husband, Micah, Emily O’Dell, Scott O’Dell, Ian O’Dell, Tucker O’Dell, Molly Brown, Landri Brown; great grandchildren, Mayvrie Martinez and a baby girl on the way. Sisters Debbie Ridener and Sherri Bennett. Along with numerous neices, nephews, family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the play ground fund at Veal Switch Missionary Baptist Church. (P.O. A funeral service will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, November 30, at Veal Switch Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will take place
