Buck Strawn 91 of Daingerfield passed away on Monday afternoon, October 16, 2023 in a Daingerfield nursing facility. He was born on July 21, 1932 in Morris County to Leslie Scott and Etta Strawn. A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 19th, from 6 - 8 PM at Horn-Nail-Haggard Funeral Home. There will be a graveside service held on Friday, October 20th, at 2 PM at Nelson and Company cemetery of Hughes Springs. Services have been entrusted to the Horn Family at Horn-Nail-Haggard Funeral Home in Daingerfield.
Mr. Strawn had a passion for many things. He played baseball for a minor league team out of Texarkana in his younger years. He had the amazing ability to accomplish nearly anything with his hands. He worked away from home for Brown & Root Industrial Services as a welder and millwright. After moving back to Daingerfield he went to work with Delta Fab and Atlas Roofing where he would work until he retired. Mr. Strawn also used his time here on Earth to work for the Lord. He served 20 years as assistant Chaplin at the Telford Unit Prison in New Boston. He pastored 2 churches: The Congregational Methodist Church in Deridder, Louisiana and another church in Robeline, Louisiana. He was a member of the Church On The Rock in Daingerfield for many years where he served as their maintenance man. He was also a member of 1st Assembly of God in Hughes Springs in his later years. Mr. Strawn honorably and faithfully served his country in the United States Army. He loved all sports; the Dallas Cowboys, even when they were losers; as well as the #1 Texas Rangers Fan. He loved watching anything from the little league world series all the way to Major League Baseball. He had a passion for coaching little league baseball. Through his busy schedule, he always made the time for the people who mattered most; his kids, grandkids and great grandkids. Michael, his son, claims that Mr. Strawn was the best white perch fisherman he had ever seen and that he out fished him every time; always sitting in the back of the boat with that great big smile!
Buck was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Etta Strawn; daughters, Monica Rae Brock, Janet Lee Strawn; sons Roger Kyle Strawn, Marc Wesley Harris; Those left to cherish is memory include his sons, Jerry Ray Strawn, Scotty Lynn Strawn, Michael Kevin Harris and wife Elizabeth; son-in-law, Jerry Brock; brother-in-law James Ray Morehead; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
