Betty Louise Bratton Wilson was born on November 21, 1929, in Dallas, Texas, at Old Parkland Hospital to Herschel and Georgie Bratton. She went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, April 1, 2026.

Betty graduated from Marshall High School in 1947. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Daingerfield, Texas, for more than 50 years.
After her husband, Jess Wilson, retired, they devoted their time to volunteer work with the Master’s Builders, helping construct churches and missionary homes throughout the United States and Japan. Betty enjoyed sewing and gardening, and she loved traveling with her husband. Together they visited all 50 states and Canada.

She had a deep passion for Bible studies and missionary work, both in the United States and around the world. Betty was generous and faithful in supporting many charities and missions. Among her many acts of service, she helped support Bible translation efforts in various languages and helped fund the digging of a well in Africa.

Betty was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother who cherished her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herschel and Georgie Bratton; her loving husband, Jess Wilson; her daughter, Laura Hanke; and her son, Perry Wilson.

She is survived by many loving family members, including her daughter, Traci Joy Mefford and her husband Doug of Canton, Georgia; granddaughters, Jena Harmon and her husband Jason of Lafayette, Louisiana and Rachel Mefford of Canton, Georgia; grandsons, Jeff Baker and his wife Jacquelyn of Troutman, North Carolina, Anthony Wilson and his wife Chappell of Lafayette, Louisiana and Aaron Young and his wife Emily of Stonewall, Louisiana.
She is also survived by her great-grandchildren: Jade Harmon, Jess Harmon, Jonn Harmon, Alexander Wilson, Zachary Wilson, Audrey Young, Rylee Young, Maddox Young, Ryleigh Young, Sawyer Whitten, Erika Baker, and Mathias Baker; and her great-great-grandchild, Aliyah Wilson.
Betty’s life was a testament to faith, generosity, and love for others. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Funeral services will be held at 10 am, Saturday, April 4, 2026 at the First Baptist Church of Daingerfield with Decker May and Bro. James Gray officiating. Burial will follow in Daingerfield Cemetery under the direction of Horn Family Funeral Home of Daingerfield. The family will receive friends beginning at 9 am prior to the service.

  3. Tracy, i have such fond memories of your mom and dad from childhood and even most recently when our choir from church would come and sing at Capstone. She was always there and always sang along to every verse! She was amazing and kind and so so full of faith! I will see you tomorrow. I’m so sorry for your loss dear friend!
