June 9, 1938 ~ July 27, 2025

Bette Lou Jones’s life story began June 9, 1938 in Clarksville, Texas, and she was called home to be with her dear Lord on July 27, 2025. Bette was born to parents Margaret and JB Henson and she had one younger brother, Larry, whom she cherished. Growing up, Bette was an active, bright, sweet girl influenced by Christian values and a strong work ethic. After attending Hooks High School, she met the love of her life, Loyd Jones, at Texarkana Jr. College and they married and spent most of their years in Daingerfield. They eventually made their home on Lone Star Lake in Jenkins where they both enjoyed fishing together and entertaining friends and family. She was married to Loyd for 56 years, before his passing. She has two devoted sons, Randy Jones and his wife Sharon of Canton, and Kyle Jones and his wife Pat of Martins Mill. Bette was a wonderful homemaker and worked outside the home beginning the Busy Bee Kindergarten, and later finished college earning her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees. She was employed as a teacher and counselor before her retirement from Daingerfield ISD. She and husband Loyd were active supporters of the school district and the Athletic Booster Club. She was always cheering for her beloved Daingerfield Tigers. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, Daingerfield, before moving to be closer to her sons and their families. She was active in the Children’s Ministry and served the Lord in Sunday School, nursery, piano, and Bible Schools. Bette’s favorite activities were with her family and friends and included entertaining, camping, attending grandchildren’s activities, and playing games. Hobbies that she enjoyed were reading, crossword puzzles, crafting, and decorating her home for the seasons. Bette was known to many for her devotion to the Lord and her family and for her adventurous spirit. She was always ready to pack a bag and head out – whether it was to visit her sons and their families, or farther away. She especially enjoyed camping with great friends and her grandchildren, traveling to Wyoming and experiencing Hawaii. Bette is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Loyd Jones, and her brother Larry Henson. She is survived by her sister-in-law Betty Henson of Texarkana, her two sons and their wives, and grandchildren Lindsey Jones, Austin Jones (spouse Kristin), Hannah Hemby (spouse Josh), Amber Jones, Jillian Moore (spouse Davis). She has six great grandchildren: Cooper Hemby, Graceson Hemby, Brooks Hemby, Nolan Hemby, Annalee Moore, and Jace Jones. Thank you to those who assisted so gently and kindly with her care at Arabella of Athens and Enhabit Hospice. Bette leaves behind a legacy of faith, and encouragement for all of us to live a life of fun, hospitality, and heartfelt love for God, family, and friends. Funeral services will be held at 3 PM Tuesday, July 29, 2025 in the Chapel of Horn-Nail-Haggard Funeral Home in Daingerfield. The family will receive friends at 2 PM prior to the service. A private interment will take place in Bradfield Chapel Cemetery.

  2. I have fond memories of Bette when she and Boo married. Boo and my daddy are double first cousins. I remember Randy and Kyle when they were younger. We were a very close family when I was younger. Aunt Gladys and my grandmother were sisters and my grandfather and uncle Herman were brothers. Sisters married brothers. My sincere sympathy to Randy and Kyle and their extended families. Sending all my love and prayers to all the family. In love,
    Jamey Jones.
