Margaret Bottoms, 97, of Lone Star was born in Queen City on December 1, 1927 to Howard and Gradye Thomas. She passed away in a Longview hospital while surrounded by her family on Monday evening, March 31, 2025. Mrs. Bottoms attended school in Queen City and graduated from Atlanta in 1945. Having loved many things in life, Mrs. Bottoms enjoyed fishing, working with her hands, especially sewing, cooking, and watching television, her favorite channel being the gameshow network. She also loved crossword puzzles, games and was an avid Skipbo player. She enjoyed frequenting the boats in Shreveport. She loved to hold garage sales so she could barter with her customers. She played every contest that KYKX offered and spent her adult life keeping Publishers Clearinghouse in business. She offered her time to serve her community where she was an election official. She worked for Lone Star Steel as a Legal Department Secretary, she also served in the Marketing and Sales and Utility & Mill Service Departments. She was a member of Lone Star Baptist Church since 1963 where she served on the Personnel and Building Committees. She served as the director of the Wheeler Steeler Days in Lone Star and was the secretary- treasurer of the Lone Star Chamber of Commerce. A loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother known to her grandchildren as "Memaw", Mrs. Bottoms was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Arville Thomas and very special friend, Claude Craig. Those left to cherish her many memories include, daughter, Vicki Lilley of Lone Star; granddaughters, Lisa Lilley of Longview, Kim Lilley (Keivian) of Daingerfield; great grandchildren, Sydney Key of Daingerfield, Tate Boyd of Longview, Graham Boyd of Longview; sisters, Alma Self of Beaumont, Gay McAlister of Houston; nieces, Megan Brown (Stuart), Ashley Resendez (Phillip) and one nephew Rob McAlister (Christy), great nieces, Caroline and Presley, great nephew, Jake; as well as several bonus children that always held a special place in her heart.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Friday, April 4, 2025 at Lone Star Baptist Church with Bro. Rick Monds officiating. Burial will follow in Iron Bluff Cemetery in Lone Star under the direction of Horn-Nail-Haggard Funeral Home of Daingerfield. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM, Thursday, April 3, 2025 at the funeral home located at 400 Webb St. in Daingerfield.

When Dois & I think of Mrs Margaret’s pleasant smile, it brings lighthearted joy. She was with Vicki each time and it was plain to see where Vicki got her pleasant personality. Thinking of you, Dear Classmate, and remembering you and your Family in prayer.
