Mary Nell Shirley

Mary Nell Shirley, 90, passed away at home surrounded by her family on February 25, 2025. She was a longtime resident of New Boston and Hughes Springs, Texas. Mary was born on April 15, 1934, to Aubrey and Eleanor Skinner. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Malcom Harold Shirley, and their children Ricky, Scott, Eddie, and Sammy Shirley. She was also preceded by her parents. She is survived by her children: Denise Beckham and John Platt of Hughes Springs, and Karen Wilson and husband Doug of Ore City. Her grandchildren: April Edwards and husband James, Travis Beckham and wife Marcie, Meghan Frazier and husband Mickey, Melanie Latham and husband Jeff, Wendy Bolton and husband Alex, Erika Shirley and Jed Kelley, Erik Shirley and Tonya, and Kayla Shirley. Mary was also blessed with 18 great-grandchildren: Trey, Tristan, Tyler, Julie, Cara, Amelia, Noah, Issachar, Lainee, Malary, Addison , Texcee , Payton, Graison, Christopher, Faith , Amara, Kaelynn, Kadence, Malcom, and Gabriel. Mary is also survived by her brothers James Skinner of Oregon, Winston Skinner of Oregon, Bill Skinner of Costa Rica and her sister Rita Kay Barlow of Queen City. A dedicated mother and grandmother, Mary was a pillar of love and strength to her family. Mary was a devout Christian and a faithful member to the Church of Christ. She cherished her time spent with loved ones, creating lasting memories and nurturing relationships. Mary and Malcom raised seven children together, and their home was always filled with love, laughter, and the joy of family. Mary enjoyed many hobbies throughout her life, including playing Scrabble, quilting, reading her Bible, playing her guitar or playing her Organ and caring for her many dogs. She will be remembered for her kind heart, unwavering faith, and the special bond she shared with her family. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks for the love and support they have received during this time. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, March 3, 2025, at the Hughes Springs Church of Christ. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in Pulaski Cemetery in New Boston. Services have been entrusted to Horn-Nail-Haggard Funeral Home of Daingerfield.
