Micheal Vincent Shadid went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, early Monday morning, February 3, 2025. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, February 10, 2025, at First Methodist Church Daingerfield, with Pastor Dale Jamerson and Marcie McGill officiating. Interment will be in the Daingerfield Cemetery under the direction of Horn Nail-Haggard Funeral Home. Micheal was born in Sherman, Texas, on August 1, 1948, to Vincent and Winnie Gee Shadid. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Hess and Claudia McNorton of Daingerfield and Abraham and Mary Shadid of Sherman; and brother, David Shadid of Daingerfield. Micheal moved to Daingerfield with his family in 1956, when he was 8 years old. He began a lifelong love for sports when he began playing little league baseball as a child. He played baseball at every opportunity and especially loved attending the Lone Star Steel baseball clinics in the summer. He attended South Elementary, Daingerfield Jr High and graduated with the Daingerfield High School Class of 1968. He loved the Daingerfield Tigers, and he recalled his time spent as the Manager of the Football and Track team as some of his best memories. He continued to remain a loyal DHS Tiger Fan throughout his life. He was a member of the Methodist Church, where he was active in Sunday School, MYF and Worship. Mike was on the Methodist Church’s first softball team and greatly enjoyed the fellowship with his teammates. Nothing made him prouder than wearing his Methodist jersey. He also participated on a team in the first Captain Daingerfield Days Chili Cook-Off and won the first place trophy for the Methodist church. Micheal was an active member of Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of America, where he earned many badges in scouting, including the Order of the Arrow at Camp Glover and the God and Country Award. His most cherished accomplishment was when he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, which is the highest honor in Boy Scouts of America. His hobbies included fishing, collecting baseball cards and sports memorabilia and watching sports. His favorite teams were the Dallas Cowboys, New York Yankees and Texas Longhorns. After high school, Micheal attended Kilgore College for two years. He then went on to work at Lone Star Steel Co. for over 17 years, followed by employment with Pilgrims Pride for nine years. When not working, Micheal loved volunteering as a coach for summer league softball teams, most notably, his niece Marcie’s teams, the Nightmares and the Lady Rangers. In 1999, Micheal married the love of his life, Felicia Sonntag and shortly after, moved their family to the Forney-Seagoville area. While living there, he worked as a Produce Manager for a local grocery store, followed by Lowe’s, where he retired. In 2016, Mike moved in to Edgewood Rehabilitation and Care Center in Mesquite, Texas. He was a resident there until his death. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Felicia Shadid of Naples; children, Destiny Choquette of Naples, Brandon Sonntag of Seemes, Alabama; sister, Claudia McGill (Johnny) of Daingerfield; sister-in-law, Lura LaJoice (Clayton) of Rowlett; father-in-law, Johnie Blades of Naples; grandchildren, Yanci Fitzwilliam, Nikolaz Choquette, Ryder Sharp, Connie Sonntag and Addison Sonntag; nieces and nephews; Brent McGill (Jamie) of Dallas, Jennifer Tankersley (Jamey) of Bells, Tennessee, Marcie McGill of Daingerfield, and Amelia LaJoice of Rowlett; great nephews, James Tankersley, Tatum Jones, and Brady McGill. He leaves behind many loving cousins and friends to cherish his memory. Mike was friendly to everyone and never met a stranger. He had a kind smile that was contagious and a laugh that you would never forget. He will be missed dearly, but the many happy memories will live in our hearts forever. Our heartfelt thanks to Edgewood Rehab, Dallas Regional and Mesquite Specialty Hospital for the care, love and support that Micheal received over the years.

  3. This is hard, However this is one of the funny Stories I have to remember, He was My Dad. It was like I think in the first year or two of my mom and him being in my sister and my life. it was one of the best times we laughed about even the last few years.

He would often fall asleep watching tv with us his family. He worked hard and I do think him for that. well Destiny and I, had been playing and we seen that he had fallen asleep and I had an idea so I snuck and got my mom nail polish. and I had painted his toes and Fingernails, while he was asleep. Des and i had laughed so hard. well we feel asleep and the next day he had got up before us and went to work. He still had the nail polish on his nail and the crew was laughing and he then noticed the polish he was mad at first. then he got home he talked to me and then took his shoes and socks to notice his toes had been done to he laughed with us for while. I will miss him I love you dad. Thank you for all you did and you never had to.

    Love Brandon Sonntag
