Phillip Jason Chapman
September 4, 1970 ~ December 9, 2024
Phillip Jason Chapman of Hughes Springs was born in Henderson, Texas on September 4, 1970, to Odis and Peggy Chapman. At the age of 54, he passed away at home on December 9, 2024.
Phillip graduated from Henderson High School in 1989. He went on to get his Bachelor’s degree at Stephen F Austin State University. On July 8th, 1995, Phillip married Melanie Meredith Chapman. They have been married 29 years. He was a faithful member and Deacon of South Union Missionary Baptist Church. In the past, he was a Sunday school teacher for the kids, a D-team leader for the youth boys, the assistant treasurer for the Turkana Missions, and more recently, an adult Sunday school teacher.
In 1994, Phillip opened the first Edward Jones office in Daingerfield. Years later, in 1998, he opened his own business, East Texas Investments, working first in the community of Daingerfield and later in downtown Hughes Springs. One of Phillip’s greatest accomplishments was earning the Certified Financial Planner certificate.
Phillip spent his life serving others. He was involved in community organizations, such as: The Lions Club, the Gideons, and was a member of the Chamber of Commerce in Daingerfield and Hughes Springs. Through these organizations he was able to visit churches and schools planting the seed of Christ for future generations. He was truly a disciple of men. He served on the Hughes Springs ISD School Board and on the Texas Baptist Institute Board of Directors working tirelessly to positively impact the futures of many. Phillip had the heart of a servant and loved others well.
Within his busy schedule, Phillip had many passions in life. He loved sports having played football in college at SFA. He spent many Thursday and Friday nights refereeing the game he loved. He started and coordinated the youth flag football league in Hughes Springs helping to develop the skills for many future Northeast Texas football players. Phillip also enjoyed hunting and fishing when he had the chance, especially with his faithful hunting dogs.
Phillip was a God-fearing Husband, Father, Son, Brother, Uncle, and friend. If you knew him, you know that on December 9th, he met The Lord at the Gates and was told well done my good and faithful servant.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Melanie Chapman; children, Jessica Chapman and Jason Chapman; parents, Odis and Peggy Chapman; father-in-law, Ken Meredith and wife, Linda; mother-in-law, Glenda Meredith;brother, Kim Chapman and wife, Paula; sister-in-law, Melissa Streety and husband Brandon; nieces, Kara Powell and husband Klint, their children, Paisley and Paydan; Brilee Chapman, Zoey Chapman, and Morgan Streety; nephews, Blake Chapman and Marshall Streety.
There will be a visitation on Thursday, December 12, from 6-8 PM in the chapel of Horn-Nail-Haggard Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 13, at South Union Baptist Church. Interment will take place at Holloman Cemetery in Laneville, Texas.

Phillip and I were a year apart at Henderson High in the late 80s. When he was sitting in my office exam chair in approximately 2000, I knew I recognized him. The rest is history. He’s been my financial planner ever since. I am thankful God placed a Christian man to be in this important role for me and my family. I will forever be grateful for his honesty and Christian influence in his financial advising. I will also forever be grateful that he invited me to be a part of the Letters From Dad movement that was held at his church at least 20 years ago. I pray the letters that I have left for my wife and kids will leave a lasting legacy for them in the years ahead. I would not have known about LFD if it had not been for his invitation. Again, a witness to his Christian integrity.
Phillip…you will be missed, both as an advisor and friend. My prayers go out to Melanie and his children in the days ahead. May God somehow grant you peace and comfort!
