July 24, 1950 ~ June 6, 2024

John Woodrow Traylor, 73, of Lone Star was born on July 24, 1950 in Pittsburg to Curtis and Lorena Derrick Traylor. He passed away on June 6, 2024 in a Dallas hospital. A life-long resident of Lone Star, John was a graduate of Daingerfield High School and owned and operated Traylor Insurance Agency in Daingerfield for many years. John's middle name was "Go". He made so many memories traveling and loved a good bear hunt. He was blessed enough to be able to hunt in Canada and places all over, and had a trip to Africa planned and booked but didn't get to make it. John was honored to make a difference in his community by serving on the Board of Directors for the NTCC Whatley Foundation. He loved to help others which he did every chance he got. John was a proud and faithful member of the Daingerfield Church of Christ where he made so many relationships and lasting memories throughout the years. When staying in Arkansas, he would attend the Highway Church of Christ in Benton, a congregation he also loved dearly and enjoyed fellowship with. A man of many talents, John loved architecture and found great joy in designing and building homes. He designed a retirement home in Arkansas and oversaw a nine- month landscape masterpiece come to light. He enjoyed many hours of peaceful relaxation while there and couldn't wait to get back there and slow down and take in the Lord's beautiful artwork. A loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, John was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, David Traylor. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Betty Traylor of Lone Star; daughter, Marilyn DeAnne Wheeler and Ken of Tyler; sons, Christopher Shane Traylor and Mary of California, Curtis Raymond Traylor and Monica of Lone Star; 6 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild; sisters, Martha Collins and Wiley of Arlington, Dolly Traylor and Randy of Longview and just as important as his children, his beloved parrot, "Andy" who just turned 22 on June 6th. A service celebrating his life will be held at 2 PM Thursday, June 13, 2024 at the Daingerfield Church of Christ with Tim Gibbs officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 1 PM at the church prior to the service. Services have been entrusted to Horn-Nail-Haggard Funeral Home in Daingerfield.
