Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Was so sad to read of Mrs. Johnson’s passing. I am 57 years old now and still have the fondest memories of her and her 3rd grade classroom at South Elementary (one of the only rooms with a door directly outside to the playground, and it had carpet). She was always so very kind and patient.
Even the time that we broke a mirror she had hanging on the wall.
A lot of us 3rd graders took up a money collection so we could replace it.
Thank you Mrs. Johnson. You will always have a fond place in my heart.

  2. Rosalyn Rutledge Alsobrook says:

What a wonderful and insightful teacher Mrs. Johnson was. She discovered my talent for “fiction” and occasionally, after lunch, during story time after lunch; she let me tell stories instead. I loved it. I included classmates as characters in my stories. One day I was mad at Harris Ryan for shoving a friend to the ground, so that day I carried all my classmates down a deep, dark cave in my story and made it very creepy. Then, suddenly, I had a monster pop out and eat Harris. While everyone was gasping (especially Harris) Mrs. Johnson scrambled to take over the story. She did it with finesse. Later, she explained to me that story time was not the place for revenge. I never killed off another classmate during story time. But later, when I became an author, I admit to killing off a few other folks I didn’t like in my various novels. Mrs. Johnson is one of the three teachers who encouraged the creativity it took for me to become a fiction novelist. I loved her dearly. (even though she was also the teacher who refused to let me continue to borrow paper from classmates because I used the opportunity to talk. She also made me stay in from recess once to clean my desk because I finished an assignment I was writing on my desktop because I ran out of paper and knew I could not borrow any from anyone.)

  3. Rosalyn Rutledge Alsobrook says:

Mrs Johnson would have given me a B for that passage for not having proofread….even though it was praising her. She didn’t play favorites.

  4. She taught me in 3rd grade. I remember her making sure we stood for the pledge. I loved her so much. She was always smiling. My mom and dad thought the world of her too.

    Prayers to her entire family.
