Helen Virginia Saunders

Helen Virginia Benedict Saunders, age 79, formerly of Pittsburg, TX peacefully passed away Thursday, January 04, 2024. She was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, Wilmonth Lee Saunders, who passed away in 1997 and her son Russell Steven Saunders in 1994. She is survived by son Randal Saunders and wife Susan, daughter Christina Matthews and husband Michael, daughter Melissa Spann and husband Tom, son Michael Saunders, son John Saunders and wife Stefani. She had twenty-one grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was born in Jacksonville, FL and graduated from LSU in 1966 where she majored in English and was a cellist in the orchestra. She later moved to Pittsburg with her husband. Virginia’s dedication to the Christian service was carried out in her long-time commitment to Cursillo, Residents Encounter Christ, Walk to Emmaus, Angel Tree, Daughters of the King, grief counseling and countless other ministries and outreach programs. A celebration service will be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal in Mount Pleasant, TX on January 14, 2024 at 3:15pm. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Horn family at Horn-Nail-Haggard Funeral Home in Daingerfield.
