George "Bob" Allen
January 19, 1936 ~ December 28, 2023
George A. “Bob” Allen of Daingerfield was born on January 19, 1936, to Clarence and Addie Clay Allen. He was the 7th boy out of nine boys. He passed away on December 28, 2023, at the age of 87. The family will accept friends on Saturday, January 6, from 1 pm to 2 pm at Lilley's Chapel Church of Christ in Jenkins. A graveside service will follow at 2 pm at Clark Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Horn-Nail-Haggard Funeral Home.
He attended Daingerfield High School, where at 6 ft 3 ½ inches he was a star football player. After graduation he worked at Joe Pollan’s Service Station, and then began his career at Lone Star Steel Company. He worked there for 40 years, three months and six days. He met his future wife, Sherry Williams, in church. Six months later they were married. On October 7, 2023, they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Their marriage produced three children, Barry, Londa and Chris. He was a lifetime member of Lilley’s Chapel Church of Christ. There he served as song leader and filled in as preacher when needed. He was well known as an excellent carpenter. He was able to purchase the land he was born on and build his future home. He was proud of the fact he built the home himself with the help of family and friends. Every year he had a garden and raised corn, watermelons, and tomatoes. Bob’s dream was to write and publish a children’s book, which he did in 2007. The book was titled “The Ant that Wouldn’t Work”, and it was illustrated by his granddaughter, Brittany.
Bob is survived by his wife, Sherry, his children, Barry Allen and wife, Judy of Leander, Londa Woodruff and husband, Neal of Daingerfield, Chris Allen and wife, Kim of Naples. One brother, Lonzie Allen and wife, Laura of Daingerfield; Grandchildren Brittany and Carlos Fuentez of Little Elm, Paige and Noah Williams of Longview, Ryan and Kyla Wilcox of Corpus Christi; Great Grandchildren Ava, Mila, Zane and Gavin. He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, Tanner Allen, and brothers Doyle, Loyal, John R., Temple, Erby, W. O., and Mark.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude’s Children's Hospital.
