Longview - Donald "Don" Wallis Duncan, 86, of Longview, Texas, passed away on July 3, 2023. He was born on January 11, 1937, in Turkey, Texas. Don was a loving, artistic, Godly, kind-hearted, and unintentionally funny man, known for his devotion to his family.
Don had a successful career that spanned various fields. He started as an art teacher in Borger and Big Spring ISDs before transitioning to marketing at Gibson's in Duncanville and Sears in Dallas, Abilene, and Longview. Later, he became a self-employed building contractor, running Don Duncan, Inc.
Don's passions extended beyond his career. He enjoyed watercolor, oil, and sand painting, and was represented by The Country Store Gallery in Austin, through which two of his paintings were gifted to LBJ and the King Ranch. He enjoyed World War I and II history and religious studies. He taught classes for life skills at the Overton Correctional Institution.
Don was a member of the Pine Tree Church of Christ, where he found solace and community, serving for years as both a deacon and elder. His celebration of life will be held at the Pine Tree Church of Christ in Longview, Texas, on Saturday, July 8, at 11 am, with visitation from 10-11 am.
Don is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Diane Prichard Duncan, his daughters Renee Duncan Hawkins (Mike), Traci Duncan Cowan (Shayne), Michelle Duncan Parry (Brad), and son Corey Duncan (Shevin).
