Debra Ann Hunt, 65, of Daingerfield, passed away unexpectedly on May 21, 2023 after a short battle with heart issues. Debbie was born on June 30, 1957 to JR “Bill” Wilson and Nadine Singleton in Dallas, Texas. Debbie was an Ore City High School graduate and went on to achieve a degree in Criminal Justice from Northeast Texas Community College. Debbie started her career in Law Enforcement as a dispatcher and jailer at the Camp County Sheriff’s Department in Pittsburg, Texas. Once she received her degree she took a position with the Camp County Sheriff’s office as the first female deputy employed by the department. She later accepted a position with the Daingerfield Police Department where she worked for over 20 years. While at the department she became an investigator, specialized in juvenile law, was the first school resource officer at Daingerfield ISD, initiated the crime stoppers program for the area and ended her career working with the Morris County inmates on work details throughout the city. In 1973, Debbie met the love of her life, Robert Hunt, and they were married in a ceremony at the Lone Star Baptist Church on July 1, 1974, the day after Debbie’s 17th Birthday. Robert and Debbie went on to have one child, Miranda Weldon. In 2017, Debbie retired from the Daingerfield Police Department where she joined Robert in running their family businesses where she took great joy in keeping everyone in line. Debbie was preceded in death by her grandmother and grandfather Evelena and John Smith; her father JR Wilson and her mother Nadine Singleton. She is survived by her beloved husband, Robert Hunt; her daughter and son-in-law Miranda “Mandi” Weldon and Tracy; her granddaughter, Payge Patterson; her brother and sister-in-law, Doug and Karen Wilson; sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Mike Allen; and sister Sharon Wilson; brother and sister-in-law; Kevin and Bridget Wilson; brother-in-law, Kelvin Crabtree; numerous nieces and nephews and an entire community of friends she thought the world of. Funeral services for Debra Hunt, 65, of Daingerfield will be held at 2 PM Thursday, May 25, 2023 at the Lone Star Baptist Church, 643 N. Wildrose St. in Lone Star with Pastor Randy Seybert officiating. Burial will follow in Iron Bluff Cemetery. Mrs. Hunt was born on June 30, 1957 and passed away Sunday night, May 21, 2023 in a Tyler Hospital. Debra faithfully served to protect her community and was retired from the Daingerfield Police Department. Services have been entrusted to the Horn Family at Horn-Nail-Haggard Funeral Home in Daingerfield. The family will receive friends during a time of visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at the funeral home. The Daingerfield, Lone Star, Morris County, Mount Pleasant, Naples and Longview Police Departments will present honors.

  5. I was saddened to hear the news of Debra’s passing. She was a classmate of mine in Daingerfield. I had not seen her in years but always had fond memories of her as my classmate. Please accept my sincere sympathy. She was alway such a nice person and will be dearly missed by so many. I regret not crossing paths with her along this journey of life. I would have loved to visit with her. I moved away many years ago but I loved reading about all of her accomplishments and years of service in law enforcement. Prayers for her family.
