Celebration of Life Services for John Henry "Jack" Yoder, 80, of Lone Star will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at Mobberly Baptist Church at 625 East Loop 281 in Longview with Bro. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Monday, September 26, 2022 in the Worship Center of Mobberly Baptist Church. John Henry “Jack” Yoder went to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday, September 23, 2022. He was born in a log cabin outside of Dover, Delaware on February 24, 1942. He moved to Longview in 1960 and worked for Coca-Cola. Later, Jack owned and operated a Texaco filling station. He then co-owned Sparkle Car Wash with Curtis Schutz until he began training students in Taekwondo, where he was a fourth degree black belt. Jack and his wife Donetta were later led to minister to struggling children in faith-based homes in Tennessee and then Arkansas. When they returned to east Texas, Jack worked for Hughes Springs as a bus driver. He retired three years ago. Jack Yoder lived every moment of his life on earth to the fullest. Jack was never found on the sidelines. His mission was the Great Commission. He chose to go. He found needs and met them. He served strangers and made them friends. He ministered to the broken, the hopeless, the overwhelmed, and the joyful. It didn’t matter your corner, you’d find him there. Jack had a way with making those he knew feel valued. A familiar sentence he often spoke to every family member was, “You know you’re my favorite.” Jack’s presence was comforting in any moment. He was always a friend, never a foe. Jack’s hobbies included Jesus, fishing, Jesus, family, Jesus, martial arts, Jesus, and riding motorcycles. He often wrote long letters of scripture and encouragement to those dear to him, and those letters will be forever treasured. He was intentional in the words he spoke and the actions he took. Jack knew his flock well, and he was a loving shepherd that always went after the ones who wandered. His parents David Emanuel and Anna D Yoder and his siblings Andy, Lovina, and Jonas Yoder, all preceded him in passing. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Donetta, his sisters Edna and her husband Ivan, Susie and her husband Roman, Barbara and her husband Buddy, Teresa, his brother Paul and his wife Barbara, his daughter Cynthia and her husband Joe, his son Clay and his wife Amy, his son Chris and his wife Jenny, his son Curtis and his wife Katie, his son John David and his wife Jessie, daughter Stephanie and her husband Jim, his son Charlie, grandchildren Lauren, Jacob, Allyson, Luke, Jordan, Hannah, Haleigh, Brady, DJ, Anna, Faith, Jaci, Jorri, Melissa, John William, Ashley, Haley, Noah, Blythe, Turner, Ben, sixteen great grandchildren, and many cousins, nephews, and nieces. “Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.” (Psalm 91:1)

  1. Jack and Donetta we’re some of first and dearest friends in E TX over 20 years ago. Not long enough to be this man’s friend. We loved him and his love for Jesus. He was a true shepherd, always encouraging but never afraid to give corrective advice. We love you Jack, we will miss you so! I’m sure Jesus is happy to welcome you home. Until we meet again.

  2. Ken and Lou Ann Williams says:

When we met Jack, we thought he was a little different. This made him someone I wanted to know better. As it turned out, Jack was very different. We counted him among our best friends. We loved hearing his voice when we picked up the phone. When we got together there was always a big hug, we were always squeezing each other to see what kind of shape we were in 🙂 Jack was always in good shape, and I told him he was my goal post for my own conditioning. Now, missing him, I am sure a better goal will be to share love the way Jack did.

  3. I grew up across the street from the Yoder family and a lot of great young families on Gemi Drive. One day my dad went to work and didn’t come back. Had a heart attack.

At the formative age of 13, Johnny (Jack) stepped in and up. Gave me a job, taught me to drive, taught me a work ethic and how to treat others. Always with a smile and enthusiasm- the same way he treated so many of you. I worked for him until leaving for college and never forgot those lessons or that he cared for me.

After a 42 year career I retired and was privileged to re-engage with he and Donetta to tell him I loved him and how much I appreciated him investing in me.

I know he did that for many of you and demonstrated in word and deed The Great Commission and Christ’s Love. Proverbs 27:17 says “as iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another”. He knew how to make that come alive.

Praying for all his family during this temporary separation, but rejoicing that today he is with Jesus.

    Hal

  4. Mr. Jack will always be the best dad! A girl like me could only wish to be his biological daughter but I know he loved me just as much. I thank you for that love so much because if I didn’t have your love I would have never known a dad’s love!!! I know you will rest in peace because I know that you heart, mind and soul was for our savior! You will always be in my heart!

  5. Mr. Jack was Kayden’s bus driver, the absolute best man! So loving, kind hearted, and protective!

  6. Prayers to the whole family. Fine man that heaven definitely gained.

  7. I have been around Jack (in church life) for over 30 years. Jack was one of the kindest and most caring men I knew. I watched him encourage hundreds of people and his reputation precedes him. I know many, many who know jack and all spoke highly of Jack Yoder. He loved life, family, church, and most of ALL – JESUS!!!

  8. Jack Yoder (Dad #2). This man has been apart of my life from day 1. My dad loved this man with his whole heart long before I came into this world, and he did until the day he passed. I will love this man until the day we meet again. I can not tell you all of the stories growing up with the Yoder family, but I can tell you that Jack Yoder would never fail you. He would give you the shirt off of his back or the strap of his belt, depending on what you needed. He would teach you anything you wanted to know. He would love you more that you would ever know. I Love him like a Father and will cherish every butt whipping and hug that he gave me my hole life. Catch some big ones for us bud. I Love You!!

    John Paul (P.P.)

  9. Forever in my heart! There will never be enough words to describe the love and gratitude I have for these two precious souls. Gonna miss you dad!!!

  10. Mr. Jack will forever be in my heart. We had so many uplifting talks when I rode the bus with him and watching the sun come up as we picked our kids up and thanked God for another glorious day. My prayers to you Donetta and the rest of your family.

  11. Mr. Jack as we called him, was truly a great man! He always loved “his kids” on our SPED bus, and in return they loved him back. Mr. Jack always noticed when someone was upset and asked if there was anything he could do to help. Many times he prayed for me and my friends even though he didn’t know them. He was a man after God’s own heart. I will never forget how he drove our SPED bus on field trips and our end of the year field trip he would grill hot dogs & vegetables (for the adults). Thank you for sharing God’s love wherever you went. I will always be blessed for knowing you! Until we meet again!
