Funeral services for William Marion "Pappy" Martindale, 82, of Pittsburg will be held at 2 PM Monday, May 9, 2022 in the Chapel of Horn-Nail-Haggard Funeral Home of Daingerfield with Phillip Mathis and Mike Brittain officiating. Burial will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery in Pittsburg. The family will receive friends beginning at 1PM prior to the service. Mr. Martaindale was born on August 27, 1939 in Avery to William and Lee Ottie Martaindale. He passed away on Friday morning, May 6, 2022 in a Daingerfield nursing facility. Pappy loved farming, ranching as well as working in the garden and working with horses. Having deep roots in gospel music, he sang for many years in a Southern Gospel Quartet with his family, "The Martaindale Family". He was a member of Spring Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Pittsburg. He loved to share the gospel with others and especially with his doctors and nurses. a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Mr. Martaindale was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Bonnie Jean Martaindale; and sisters, Dessie Hancock, Nadine Powell and Uyvonne Guidry. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Elnora Martaindale of Pittsburg; daughter and son-in-law, Pamela Wright and husband Kenneth of Harleton; son and daughter-in-law, Cliff Martaindale and wife Sandra of Daingerfield; grandchildren, Alex Barron, Charity Stone, Blake Barron, Tammie Newsome, Phillip Mathis; honorary grandchildren, Oscar Barron and Juan Barron; great grandchildren, Raylee Mathis, Carson Mathis, Aliya Anthony, Easton Mathis, Khyren Barron, Oliver Stone, Sahryiah Barron, Ian Stone; sister, Rita Myrl Reynolds of Longview, Janice Garmon and husband Dave of Holland, MI; and brother, John Wesley Martaindale and wife Mona of Ore City. The family requests memorials be made to: Spring Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 81 County Rd. 4690, Pittsburg, Texas 75686.

  1. Pappy was such a delightful gentleman whose love of his Lord was deep. From wherever he was sitting he always held out his hand to me motioning me to him and then put his arm around me to greet me. I suppose my fondest memory of him was when he sang in praise with that deep bass voice. I will miss him. But how I rejoice that he didn’t have to spend a long time in pain.

  2. Pappy was the first person to greet us at church. He was sitting out side on a chair in front of the fellowship hall. He gave me a hug, the first of many, and welcomed me and my family. He was such a sweet man and I loved listening to him sing. He had a beautiful bass voice. We will miss him so much. I know he is happy now that he is with Bonnie and they are singing in the angel choir.
