Dorothy Laverne Mozingo ConnorMarch 9, 1934 - August 2, 2018Laverne Connor, age 84, formerly of Daingerfield and presentlyof Bryan, Texas, passed away on August 2, 2018 at CHI StJoseph Manor. A memorial service will be held 10 A.M. on Tuesday,August 7, 2018 at First Baptist Church in Daingerfield, Texas.Interment will follow at the Daingerfield Cemetery inDaingerfield, Texas. Arraqngements are under the direction of Nail-Haggard Funeral HomeLaverne was born on March 9, 1934 in Bowie County, Texas toDarrell Alton and Myrtie Jane Mozingo. She married HaroldMerrill Connor on June 20, 1959 and shared 35 wonderful yearsof marriage until his death in 1994.After graduation from Redwater High School, she attendedTexarkana College and the University of Texas in Austin whereshe graduated with a BS in Elementary Education. Her firstteaching assignment was Hooks Elementary teaching thirdgrade, followed by elementary schools in New Boston,Redwater, Lone Star, and finally West Elementary inDaingerfield, where she spent the remainder of her careerteaching first grade. She retired in 1996 after teaching 34 yearsin the State of Texas, with 31 of those years in the Daingerfield-Lone Star ISD. She loved her students and inspired manychildren throughout her life with the love of reading and theimportance of education.Laverne was active in many professional organizations,including Pandora Study Club, Morris County Texas StateTeachers Association, Delta Kappa Gamma, and PEO.As a young child, she came to know her Lord at RedwaterMethodist Church and was later baptized and joined Lone StarBaptist Church. After moving to Daingerfield, she was a veryactive member of First Baptist Church Daingerfield serving as aSunday School teacher for many years, active in WMU, andserving on the Hospitality Committee.Laverne was a devout Christian, an avid reader and loved totravel. She lived independently for many years in Daingerfieldafter the loss of her husband. In 2008, she moved to Bryan,Texas to be closer to her son, Michael, and daughter-in-law,Diana.Laverne was preceded in death by her loving husband Harold M.Connor, parents Darrell Alton and Myrtie Jane Mozingo, sistersDossie Shoemaker, Flossie Smith, and Margie Walker, brotherin-law Kenneth Walker, and daughter-in-law Diana Connor.Laverne is survived by her son, Michael H. Connor, of Bryan,Texas; sister-in-law, Mary Beth Peoples, of Burnet, Texas; andmany nieces and nephews.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to TheParkinson's Foundation. Special thanks to all her caregivers andstaff at CHI St Joseph Manor and Hospice Brazos Valley inBryan, Texas. Family will recieve friends from 5 till 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home







Mrs Conner was my 4th grade teacher in Lone Star Elem. She was a very sweet lady and excellent teacher. So sorry to hear about her passing. She will be forever remembered. Micheal, you and your family are in my prayers.
