Katherine "Kay" May Hawkins, 81, of Daingerfield entered Heaven's gates Saturday, April 22, 2017.Mrs. Hawkins was born September 19, 1935 in Calgary, Alberta; a providence of Canada, to Theodore and Florence Braucht. She married the love of her life, James Darrell Hawkins in 1953. They shared a lifetime of love and family together for 64 years. The Lord blessed Kay with a servant's heart, she was caregiver to many throughout her lifetime. She was a partner to her husband in all aspects of life, including their ownership of Hawkin's Family Restaurant. She also served as a homemaker, loved to preparing amazing meals and giving her time creating special memories. Her unwavering faith, gentle spirit, and selfless love helped guide all of her family; that was so precious to her. She instilled in them a love for Christ, the importance of family and friendship, plus a desire to serve her church(Lilley's Chapel Church of Christ), and those in need.Kay leaves behind a legacy of love. Survivors include her husband, James Hawkins of Daingerfield; daughter and son-in-law Debbie and Fred Lyons of Daingerfield; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Kim Hawkins of Daingerfield; daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Randy Coe of Jenkins; Daughter and son-in-law Melissa and David Eppes of Longview; sister, Audrey Szczetanski of Vale, Oregon; brother Gordon Braucht of Gladewater; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Lynn Braucht of Gilmer; grandchildren: Leslie Wilson and Mark, Megan Ellisor and Brannon, Katie Williams and Jason McCoy, Matthew Lyons and Brandon, Sarah Gray, Marcus Lyons and Rebecca Nail, Jonathan Hawkins and Amber, Tera McGill and Brian, Erin Nix and Ty, Zachery Laney, Anna Eppes, Brayden Eppes, Santos Barrera and Mary.18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Florence Braucht; sister, Donna Schott; and grandson, David Hawkins.Memorial services will be held at Lilley's Chapel Church of Christ on April 28 at 2:00 p.m. with Kenny Shaver officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Nail-Haggard Funeral Home.

  3. I can’t say I knew Kay real well but she & her husband were kind enough to allow both my girls (while in school) to work for them when Hawkins was the Dairy Queen. The girls were fond of them and enjoyed working for them. Rest in peace, Kay and God bless the family you left behind.
