John Ivy Betts, Jr.Daingerfield-Services for John Ivy Betts, Jr., 88, of Daingerfield will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 26, 2011, at Nail-Haggard Funeral Home with Dr. Tim Wade Officiating. Burial will be at Concord Cemetery in Omaha. John was born December 28, 1922, in Paris, Texas, and died Sunday, October 23, 2011, in Tyler. John was preceded in death by his brother, Doyse Betts and sister, Dorothy Green, and wife, Marie Betts.Mr. Betts was a graduate of Naples High School, a member of the First Baptist Church, and retired from Lone Star Steel. Mr. Betts was also a veteran of the U.S. Air Force & served during WWII and the Korean War.He was a member of the Masonic Lodge & Shrine Club. He served as president of the Pittsburg County Shrine Club in McAlester, Oklahoma.John is survived by his wife, Celia Betts of Daingerfield; son & daughter-in-law, Bobby & Jakie Polson of North Richland Hills; daughter & son-in-law, Brenda and Bill Motes of Nacogdoches; step-daughter, Ruth Ann Spurlock of Tyler; grandchildren, John Polson of Rhome, Tx., Leigh Ann King of League City; step grandchildren, Christie and Tiger Spurlock of Tyler, numerous great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Donations in John's memory may be made to the First Baptist Church or charity of your choice.     I was so sorry to hear about Mr. Betts. I grew up across the street from him and Marie. My brother and I would visit them often.I’m sure they got tired of us at times. He was such a wonderful man.
