  14. Lori and family, Tony and Kenneth texted me at the same time on Thursday and then I called both and got this tragic news. I’ve know Russell since I was seven in Mrs. Riley’s third grade class at Lone Star Elementary. He was one of my best friends while growing up in East Texas. I remember Charles and Wanda being the Webelo and Cub Scout parents, spending nights at their home, their move to Jenkins, several failed hunting and fishing trips, (something always happened) and Russell being my roommate our first semester at Texas A&M. My regrets are numerous, right now I wish I had kept up with Russell more but trips to Texas are few and far between with everything going on now. Although I haven’t talked to Russell in several years I know that his faith and family were his two “touchstones.” Russell was so forthright – honest, loving, caring and I know he remains a great example and role model for his family and his community. My God bless you and keep you during this difficult time. You and your family have my whole heart. Love to all, Brian and Cissy Hass

  17. Jerry & Darlene Hicks says:

Our deepest sympathy goes out to Lori and children. I know Russell walked with The Lord each day and lived his life as his mom and dad set the example for him to model. The last time that I was able to spend with Russell was at Uncle Charles funeral. We talked about how time got by without seeing each other. I have great memories of Russell in Dangerfield at home with his mom and dad. I know he is with them now.I only wished we could have spent more time together. We love you guys.

  18. Lori, Please accept our thoughts and concern for all of the family at this time. We recall Russell from earlier years and loved his happy disposition. What a wonderful family you have, with an equal number of boys and girls. Our wish is that your faith and memories will comfort all of you in the days ahead. Barbara and Phil Gilbert, Casey and Corys grandparents.

  19. Ricky and Priscilla Williams says:

Priss and I just found out today. So sorry for your loss, but rejoicing in his security in Jesus. We both remember fondly the meal in your home and the time to visit. Please give Beth our regards.

  20. Lori,Like others, I am at a loss of words hearing of Russell’s death. I am another friend that goes back many years not only as classmates and neighbors but also as a “family member” of South Union. Anyone who knew Russ knows he was the extraordinary man, son, father and grandfather. He always had that ear to ear grin. I can’t recall ever seeing him without it and always giving me a hug at church. Not only did he walk the walk but talked the talk as Mrs Wanda and Mr Charlie taught him. I know there will never be words to comfort you and the kids. You, as a strong christian woman, know there will be a day you will never be separated from your beloved Russell. He, along with his mom and dad will be there waiting. Oh, what a glorious and joyful reunion that will be!My deepest sympathy to you and all the kids.

  21. Kathryn Pate Kelley says:
