It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Mitch Cox, a hardworking, dedicated, and adventurous man, who left us at the age of 75. Born on April 10, 1951, in Hobbs, New Mexico, he passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 25, 2026 while in a Tyler Hospice facility and surrounded by his loving family
Mitch was a true pillar of the Daingerfield and Lone Star communities. Growing up in Lone Star, he graduated from Daingerfield High School in the Class of 1969 and continued his education at Stephen F. Austin University, graduating in 1973. His professional life was deeply rooted in the local oil field trucking industry. Starting in 1975, he worked for EL Farmer until 1993, after which he founded T&C Express. Showing a relentless entrepreneurial spirit, he also established Cox Logistics in 2007 and took ownership and operations of Daingerfield Country Club from 2013 until 2025.
A loving husband to Kathy Cox for 54 splendid years, Mitch cherished their time together, especially enjoying scenic road trips. His mornings were rarely complete without his routine breakfast and coffee at Hawkins, an endearing local tradition.
Mitch was also a fervent supporter of local sports and community development. In the 70s and 80s, he coached youth baseball, bringing joy and discipline to the game. His commitment extended into civic engagement where he served on the Lone Star City Council, volunteered with the Jaycees, and contributed on the Lone Star Economic Development Corporation Board.
He leaves behind a loving family: his wife Kathy, his son Jason Cox and wife Chelsea of Longview, his daughter Whitney Cox of Daingerfield, and his cherished grandchildren Logan, Sydney, Colbie, and Olivia Cox. Mitch is also survived by his brothers, Mike Cox of Daingerfield and Lynn Cox of Lone Star. He was preceded in death by his father, Calvin Cox.
A funeral service will be held at 2 PM Friday, August 28, 2026 at the Daingerfield Church of Christ with Tim Gibbs officiating. Burial will follow in Daingerfield cemetery under the direction of Horn Family Funeral Home of Daingerfield. The family will receive friends beginning at 1 pm prior to the service at the church.
As we bid farewell to Mitch, the family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Daingerfield Church of Christ, 818 West WM Watson Blvd., Daingerfield, Texas 75638. Mitch’s legacy and zest for life will be remembered and celebrated by all who knew him.

Mitch always had an encouraging word for me. For that I am forever grateful. God’s strength to Kathy and family at this time. You all are loved.
I’m so sad to hear this. Mitch, just want you yo know that you gave all for the City of Lone a Star while serving on the Economic Development Board. As we discussed many times the verbal abuse you took was unfounded and I know it hurt you deeply although you had a way of never showing it. I you you were always a great asset to me. I pray you will rest easy in Gids hands. To your family I wish peace at this time of grief. Know that you are not yhe only ones will miss Mitch. I pray peace for you at this most difficult of times. Mitch was my cousin, and I have a lot of fond memories of all us playing together in his front yard when he, Mike, Lynn, and the rest of us were just kids. I will always remember his passion for baseball and how much he loved everything related to the game. My heart goes out to the entire family, and I pray that you all find peace and comfort during this difficult time. Mitch never done anything half heartily he was all in or not in at all, I always had great respect for that.

Condolences to the family. I was so sorry to hear of Mitch’s passing. I lived near Mitch, in Lone Star, until 1968 when our family moved from Bowie Street. Me, Mitch, Mike, and Lynn played softball for many hours at the end of Bowie. Lots of fun hunting crawdads in a tiny creek near their home. Lots of good memories.
