Jerry Wayne Awtry, born March 3, 1959 passed away February 16, 2026.

Jerry was preceded in death by his father Wayne Awtry and his son Colton Wayne Awtry. Jerry is survived by his daughter Adessa Awtry Clark, son-in-law Dayton Clark, granddaughter Braelyn Wilfred and son James Tyler Awtry. Mother Thelma Awtry, brother James Awtry, sister Taresa Long and brother-in-law Lee Long and several aunts and one uncle and numerous cousins.

Jerry graduated from Daingerfield High School, attended Tyler Junior College and became a licensed peace officer. Jerry’s career as a peace officer spanned over 35 years having served at Smith Co. Sheriff’s Office, Whitehouse Police Department, Linden Police Dept and Ore City Police Department.

Jerry loved his family and the few people he called friends with his whole heart, and he could fill a room with his laugh.

A graveside service will be held at Spring Hill Cemetery in Rocky Branch at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 20, 2026. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Horn Family Funeral Home.

  2. Taresa, I am so, so sorry to hear of Jerry’s passing. My heart is breaking at this news. I have so many memories of Jerry. We may not be blood kin but he is definitely family. He is the big brother I always wish I had. Whitehouse was just not the same after he left us. Sorry I could not be there to pay my respects but I am there in spirit. Love and prayers.
