Celebrating the life of Shirley Ann Carr, age 87 of Hughes Springs, who graced this world with her presence on June 28, 1938 in Naples Texas to Earlie Jacobs and Lota Lee Cobb Jacobs. Shirley passed away peacefully, at her home on February 7, 2026, while surrounded by her loving family, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and love that was felt by all who knew her.

Shirley was one of 9 children. She married James Carr in February of 1955 and they raised their 7 children at the old home place in Rocky Branch. Known for being the sweetest and nicest person, Shirley was truly nice to everyone she met. Her kind and benevolent spirit was her signature, touching lives in the most profound and enduring ways. More than anything in this world, Shirley loved her children, offering them an infinite amount of love and support that only a devoted mother could provide.

Shirley’s remarkable capacity for love extended beyond her family; she loved everyone with a wholehearted and unconditional love. Her life was a beautiful testament to the power of kindness and caring. She was known as Nanny Carr not only to her grandchildren, but to her grandchildren’s friends.

We will remember Shirley, “Nanny Carr” for her radiant smile, her boundless generosity, and her unwavering love. May her legacy inspire all who knew her to live with the same kindness and warmth that Shirley embodied every day of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband James Carr; son’s, James Earl “Squirrell” Carr, Mark Carr, Royce Carr, Ricky Carr; daughter Melinda Sharbine; granddaughter Sabrina Carr.

Those of us that will miss her dearly, son Cecil Carr of Hughes Springs; daughter Rebecca Wilson of Hughes Springs; granddaughters, Jamie Carr of Hughes Springs, Glenda Smith of Hughes Springs, Brenda Carr of Hughes Springs, Tabatha Duke of Hughes Springs, Crystal and Carol Sharbine of Linden, Heather Carr of Naples, Kelli Wallace of Lone Star, Kerri Parker of Daingerfield, Samantha Boyles of Oklahoma; grandson’s, Junior Carr of Rockport Texas, David Carr of Alabama, Billy Duke of Linden, Wesley Sharbine of Linden, Ricky Carr of Livingston, Ricky Duke and Josh Carr; 41 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 11, 2026 in the chapel of Horn Family Funeral Home of Daingerfield with Pastor Garrett Graupner officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery in Rocky Branch under the direction of Horn Family Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM, Tuesday February 10, 2026 at the funeral home.
